When people decide to buy a new home, it’s because they’re looking for something more. More space, more opportunity and more memories to last a lifetime. I got into Real Estate because I wanted more out of life, too. 

Just six years ago, I was working as the team leader at a call center when I realized something was missing. In my last year, I began to wake up dreading work, and I would gaze out of the window, dreaming about working for myself. Then one day, I decided to make the jump. I quit my corporate job to become a full-time Real Estate agent. Three years later, I was ranked the number one agent in the Durham region for Century21 Leading Edge. 

My name is Kenneth Toppin, and I am a Real Estate agent in the Greater Toronto Area. I grew up in Scarborough, Ontario between two worlds. On the north side of Kingston road, I saw well-off families. On the south side, I saw people working their hardest to make ends meet. My family was fortunate enough to move from an apartment building in the at-risk community to a small bungalow about a five-minute drive away. From there, I watched as some of my friends made bad decisions to make money. I saw circumstances and choices could make or break a future. Most importantly, I learned that I wanted more. 

Growing up in Scarborough taught me to stay focused on my opportunities, overcome obstacles and think critically. I also learned to set goals and pursue them with confidence, leaving all fear behind. My parents taught me to always put in 100% effort, because my dreams and my freedom would depend on it. I love Real Estate because it allows me to harness my personal power to provide the best possible service to others. It’s truly one of the most important jobs a person can have. 

I tell each of my clients, “Only stress when I stress – and I never stress.” How do I stay so calm? Over the past couple of years, I’ve learned to put my faith in God. I firmly believe that my success and the success of my clients is because of His favor. I know that He will see me through. 

As stated in one of my favorite scriptures, James 2:14, faith without works is dead. This is why no one works harder for their clients than I do. I’m the 6’3’’, 240-pound gladiator you want on your side of the negotiation table. My clients rest easily knowing that I’m always in their corner. Knowing that I’m providing my services with excellence and care is the highest award, and the only standard that I hold myself accountable to. 

I am not perfect. I’m still on my journey and I continue to work on my inner spirit daily. But one thing I know for certain is that Real Estate has helped me to find more out of my life. It allows me to provide for my clients, to take care of my family and raise my son in a safe environment, while still teaching him all the life lessons I’ve learned along the way. When my clients and my family are happy, safe and secure, I know that I’ve done what I’ve been called to do – and at this point in my life, I couldn’t ask for anything more.
